Can you believe that we are already talking about the playoffs??? November 11th is the FINAL game of the regular season. November 18th is Super Saturday as the Turkey Bowl contenders will be decided. However, to ensure that everyone is ready for Super Saturday, we have put together the myriad of playoff and tie breaking procedures that will decide who plays who on November 18th! We will go team by team and list what has to happen for each team to reach the intended destination: the PLAYOFFS!! The tie breaking procedures are as follows: 1) Overall Record, 2) Head to Head Record, 3) Overall Point Differential, 4) Head to Head Point Differential, and 5) Overall Points Scored. (Keep in mind that EVERY team will make the playoffs)

#1 Black Ninjas (3-1)

  • The ball is truly in the Black Ninjas’s court. They have the BEST chance at finishing #1 overall. With a win against the Green Spartans, the Black Ninjas will clinch #1 overall and will play the #4 overall team on November 18th. We will list the results that the Ninjas have had this season to give an idea of the Black Ninjas status:
    • Week 1: 24-20 vs Spartans WIN
    • Week 2: 37-12 vs Rattlers LOSS
    • Week 3: 35-6 vs War Eagles WIN
    • Week 4: 28-0 vs Rattlers WIN
    • 99-63 OVERALL POINT DIFFERENTIAL (+36)
  • The following playoff and tie breaking procedures would take place pending the results of Week 5:
    • If the Ninjas WIN by any amount of points, they CLINCH #1 OVERALL.
    • If the Ninjas lose to the Spartans by 4 or more points and the Rattlers cannot make up the OVERALL POINT DIFFERENTIAL SPREAD, the Ninjas will finish at #2.
    • If the Ninjas lose to the Spartans by 4 or more points, but the Rattlers make up the OVERALL POINT DIFFERENTIAL SPREAD, the Ninjas would then finish #3 OVERALL.

#2 Maroon Rattlers (2-2)

  • The Maroon Rattlers are sitting nicely for the #2 spot as they face the lowly Golden War Eagles. There is a scenario where the Rattlers would drop from #2 to #4 and it honestly is VERY possible! First, the results for the season:
    • Week 1: 2-0 vs War Eagles LOSS (forfeiture)
    • Week 2: 37-12 vs Ninjas WIN
    • Week 3: 37-12 vs Spartans WIN
    • Week 4: 28-0 vs Ninjas LOSS
    • 74-54 OVERALL POINT DIFFERENTIAL (+20)
  • The following playoff and tie breaking procedures would take place pending the results of Week 5:
    • If the Rattlers win against the War Eagles and the Ninjas lose to the Spartans and the Rattlers make up the OVERALL POINT DIFFERENTIAL SPREAD with the Ninjas, the Rattlers would clinch #1 OVERALL. For example, let’s say the Spartans beat the Ninjas by +4 (i.e. 20-16) and the Rattlers win by +33 (i.e. 33-0), the Rattlers would clinch the #1 OVERALL spot.
    • Since the Rattlers beat the Spartans in their ONLY match of the season, it would NOT matter what the Spartans do against the Ninjas AS LONG AS the Rattlers WIN make up that OVERALL POINT DIFFERENTIAL SPREAD with the Ninjas.
    • The Rattlers hold the HEAD to HEAD RECORD Tie Breaker with the Spartans.

#3 Green Spartans (2-2)

  • The Green Spartans have everything to gain in Week 5 against the Ninjas! With a win over the Ninjas by 4 or more points and a Rattlers LOSS, the Spartans could CLINCH #1 OVERALL due to a TIE in OVERALL RECORD and in HEAD TO HEAD RECORD; BUT they would clinch #1 due to the OVERALL POINT DIFFERENTIAL! First, the results from the season:
    • Week 1: 24-20 vs Ninjas LOSS
    • Week 2: 35-12 vs War Eagles WIN
    • Week 3: 37-12 vs Rattlers LOSS
    • Week 4: 42-6 vs War Eagles WIN
    • 109-79 OVERALL POINT DIFFERENTIAL (+30)
  • The following playoff and tie breaking procedures would take place pending the results of Week 5:
    • If the Spartans beat the Ninjas by 4 or more points AND the Rattlers beat the War Eagles, the Spartans will finish in the #2 position.
    • If the Spartans beat the Ninjas by 4 or more points AND the Rattlers LOSE to the War Eagles, the Spartans would finish in the #1 position.

#4 Golden War Eagles (1-3)

  • Hilariously enough, the Golden War Eagles still have something to play for! Let us explain first with the results from the season:
    • Week 1: 2-0 vs War Eagles WIN (forfeiture)
    • Week 2: 35-12 vs Spartans LOSS
    • Week 3: 35-6 vs Ninjas LOSS
    • Week 4: 42-6 vs Spartans LOSS
    • 26-112 OVERALL POINT DIFFERENTIAL (-86)
  • The following playoff and tie breaking procedures would take place pending the results of Week 5:
    • With a win, the War Eagles would finish in the #3 position due to the head to head record tie breaker with the Rattlers. The 2-0 forfeiture win is proving to be HUGE for the War Eagles if they can pull off the win!
    • With a 1 point loss, the War Eagles would NOT get the #3 position due to the OVERALL POINT DIFFERENTIAL SPREAD being in favor of the Rattlers.

ULTIMATELY, if the Ninjas will just win against the Spartans, the #1 seed will be confirmed. IF the Rattlers can then take care of business against the War Eagles, the rest of the playoffs will be set. However, we all know ANYTHING can happen in the Golden State Flag Football League and we are excited for November 11th!!
