After a fast and furious Week 3 in the Golden State Soccer League, we must try and figure out where to begin when it comes to recapping and summarizing everything that we witnessed last night in the Bear Cave! By far, this was the MOST entertaining that the 2017 GSSL has been so far!

Maroon Cardinals 1 Blue Wildcats 1

  • This game was by far the MOST entertaining game of the season! The Wildcats started the scoring after a beautiful give and go by Jonathan Popovici to Lorenzo Varela and then back to the Popovici! The strike was in close and hit with enough force to elude goalkeeper, Jonathan Reimers. For a good majority of the first half, it looked like the Cardinals were not going to have an answer. Fast forward to the second half when the game began to open up. In fact the game got quite physical as players were willing to do anything to get their team the W. This also included losing some control of where their elbows would fly and if they would use their hands to shove the other team members in the back. We are all for intensity and giving everything to get a W, but some of the things we were watching have no room in our league. Big credit to Referee Nathan Root for keeping the game under control the best he could! In the latter stages of the 2nd half, Aarion Johnson reaped the benefits of a miscue by the Wildcats defense and powered a laser beam past Joseph Lalman to knot the game up at 1! For the remaining minutes of the game, we watched two teams give everything possible to try and get that game winning goal! Unfortunately for them, the game ended in a 1-1 DRAW; but fortunately for us, we were treated to an incredible game that featured intense action, lightning quick speed and an incredible amount of physicality that had us wondering how many yellow cards would be pulled. THIS matchup will make for an incredible 1st Round playoff game come playoff time in this year’s GSSL!

Yellow Wolverines 3 Green Bulls 1

  • The evolution of Jeremiah Lendt as goalie has come full circle as the first half of last night’s game against the Wolverines proved just that! The guy was a brick wall in facing the best players in our league! He stopped 7 shots on goal and appeared to be well on his way to one of the most incredible goaltending performances in the history of the Golden State Soccer League! Every opportunity that the Wolverines got, they were taking a shot towards goal! Now as the stats will show, there were many shots fired well wide and out of control! But the Wolverines did their job in softening up Jeremiah! In the 2nd half, we witnessed the Bryan Rodriguez Show! Scoring 2 goals within 25 seconds of gameplay to break the game wide open! Luis Elizondo responded with a strike from distance to cut into the lead! It even looked like the Bulls were going to complete their comeback when Elizondo received a penalty kick off of a crazy play in the box! Unfortunately for Luis, he was unable to convert on the freebie and the ensuing rush back the other way proved to be the fatal blow to the Bulls chances at winning. Rodriguez got the ball off a clearance attempt and ran coast to coast sifting his way through the defenders to kick home his 3rd of the game and complete his 2nd hat trick of the season! The Bulls however did not give up and fired several more shots on Maico Rubio; but in the end, the Bulls could not score and the Wolverines finished with a 3-1 victory!

The night cap will feature the (0-0-3, W-D-L) Green Bulls taking on the (1-2-0, W-D-L) Maroon Cardinals at 9:30PM! Can Bryan Rodriguez continue his hot start to the season?
