As the 2017 GSVL came to a close recently, the 2017 GSVL playoffs are just beginning. We witnessed the two semi-finals matches Saturday evening featuring Team Andrade vs. Team Keeton and Team Ralstin vs. Team Reimers.

Team Andrade vs. Team Keeton

It did not help Team Keeton that they only had 5 players for the semi-finals. However, they did not go down without a fight. We were impressed by the effort put forth by Team Keeton, but specifically Kaitlyn Wiggins. She made play after play to keep her team in the game. With 4 aces and a kill in the second set, Kaitlyn made it much more difficult for Team Andrade to get the win and advance to the championship game.

For Team Andrade, there was not a specific player that stood out for them. It was their overall team play that made the difference in this game. Playing against an outnumbered Team Keeton, Team Andrade used their teamwork to find the holes and weak spots of Team Keeton. They were able to win the match in two sets 25-19 and 25-22. If there was one player that stood out, it was Team Captain Duke Andrade. He was able to get his team going with 4 kills in the opening set, and there was no looking back from there. Next stop, the 2017 GSVL Championship Game!

Team Reimers vs. Team Ralstin

This was definitely the better of the two semi finals games. It was a back and forth matchup which was very entertaining for the fans. Team Ralstin pulled out the victory in 3 sets 25-17, 25-27, and 15-10. We were very impressed with Team Captain Jon Reimers. Over the three sets, he had 4 kills and 4 blocks which was unfortunate for him because his team lost. However, we applaud his exceptional performance!

Team Ralstin played a hard fought game in the winning effort. One player that stood out to us is Luke Hakkei. The saying, “Big things come in small packages,” is perfect to describe Luke. Though shorter than many of the other players, he accumulated 7 kills over the course of 3 sets! That was the most by any player in the semi-finals, and it will be interesting to see how he plays next week against Team Andrade!!

Next week will feature Team Andrade and Team Ralstin in the 2017 GSVL Championship Game. The game will be live streamed Sunday, April 30, @ 8:30pm (Pacific Time). If you like volleyball, you will not want to miss this game!
